Frequently Asked Questions

Is content completely independent of page layout?
Content and presentation are kept completely separate within the system. All content is stored as XML, and template layout and style is applied using XSL and style sheets.

Can the administrator make certain fields mandatory for the contributor?
Any fields can be defined as mandatory fields, forcing content editors to complete these fields. If these are not completed, the system will not allow the content to be added to the system, and will display a pre-defined message.

Is it possible for an author to easily store and retrieve a "working copy" of a piece of content as work-in-progress?
An author can store content as draft, which means it will not enter into the workflow process. A draft piece of content will not appear on any live site, but will be entered into the database to be re-edited at a later date.

Is it possible to publish the same content via a variety of different templates at different URLs, allowing for multiple "branding" or layouts for the same basic information?
Content (XML) is stored separately from presentation (XSL) and style (CSS), allowing multiple output formats and re-versioning.

Can contributors/authorisers/editors preview draft content to see exactly how it will appear when published?
The WYSIWYG editor has a preview function to view the content in the front-end template. In addition to this, each site driven by the CMS can be configured with a staged URL, to view staged content that has not yet been made live. This allows a large number of categories and documents to be created and viewed ‘in situ’ before publishing them on the live site.

Can Amaxus sites validate as XHTML 1.0 or HTML 4.01?
The served pages can validate as XHTML 1.0 or HTML 4.01 according to the your organisation's requirements.

Can Amaxus be used as an image library?
Amaxus can be used as an image or media file library. All media files uploaded to the system are tagged with metadata. This enables system users to easily find media files by searching.

Is it possible to ensure that two or more users do not edit the same content at the same time?
Maintaining data integrity is essential. File locking prevents users editing the same file or object simultaneously.

Does Amaxus support repurposing of content as printer-friendly and text only pages?
Amaxus can repurpose content in a number of formats, including printer-friendly and text-only pages.
