Java

A programming language developed by Sun Microsystems. Java is a multi-platform and platform-independent programming language. Java programs are interpreted as they run rather than needing to be compiled before they are ready to run on the users computer.

Java is well suited for use on the World Wide Web.

Small Java applications are called Java applets and can be downloaded from a web site and run on your computer by standard Web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
