English Heritage

English Heritage is an executive non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), with additional revenue generated by its historic properties and services.

The responsibilities of the organisation - officially set out in the National Heritage Act (1988) - cover all aspects of protecting and promoting England's historic environment, including conservation, improvement, public access and education.

English Heritage works in partnership with all sizes of public and private organisations, achieving its responsibilities through a varied range of tasks - including the provision of grants, maintaining registers and records, promoting education and re-investing income in the important historic environment.
