National Gallery Website Raises the Bar

National Gallery ScreenshotCongratulations to the National Gallery on the launch of their new website, powered by leading Web Content Management System Amaxus.

The beautifully designed new site showcases the National Gallery’s extensive permanent collection, enabling visitors to examine every masterpiece in outstanding detail via a new full-screen zoom option. With over 12,000 images, 18 hours of audio and 200 videos, the website encourages visitors to have a truly interactive online experience. It’s a great supplement for the millions of visitors the Museum receives annually and also allows for those who don’t live in proximity to London to experience some of what this core London cultural institution has to offer.

In addition to exploring objects from the permanent collection, the National Gallery’s new site has extensive information on current exhibitions and events, and has a guide to help people plan their visit including a new interactive floor plan to explore the building room by room.

Charlotte Sexton, Head of New Media at the National Gallery said, “The new website raises the bar for cultural websites. It offers exceptional access to this world-class collection of Western European painting and to our expert knowledge about them. Amaxus provides us with a solid foundation on which to build our online presence.”

The website was designed by London-based agency Bureau for Visual Affairs.

“I am very proud of the work we’ve done to help the National Gallery realise its online goals,” said Benno Wasserstein, Managing Director of Box UK, the company behind Amaxus. “We have a long history of working with great cultural institutions on their websites such as the Museum of London and the Imperial War Museum. We are excited that our Content Management System Amaxus is a platform that makes the permanent collections of these institutions available to people around the globe through the power of the web.”
