The Client

Severn Trent Plc is a leading FTSE 100 company with a focus on the provision, removal and treatment of water. Their core businesses are: Severn Trent Water, which provides high quality water and sewage services to over 3.7 million households across the heart of the UK; and Severn Trent Services, one of the world’s leading suppliers of water and waste water treatment solutions, based in the US but with a growing international presence.

The Challenge

Box UK were called upon to display ST Plc’s Annual Report and Accounts online, and ensure it integrated with their existing site, already powered by the Amaxus CMS. The microsite needed to reflect the style and structure of the printed report, along with all its content, whilst maintaining the look and feel of their main site. The project needed to be completed to a high standard within a very short timescale in order for the company to meet their deadline for progressing their online reporting in line with their status as a FTSE 100 company. Another key feature of the microsite was that users be able to select distinct sections of the report and download them as a single, compiled document; this was built into the overall design requirement.

Our Solution

Work began by designing wireframe templates; to provide greater cost-effectiveness, wireframes for basic functionality were created and supplemented by three optional, additional features, two of which were taken up by the client. Work then began on completing the site to the strict deadline. The microsite was built on the latest Amaxus installation, with a view to migrating ST Plc’s existing sites over at a later date. This meant that the new set-up needed to be flexible and scalable to ensure that future projects would integrate easily. Draft content was placed into the site and updated as final amendments were received; upon completion of content population, the site was delivered for UAT and released to live on schedule and without issue.

The Outcome

The ST Plc Annual Report microsite has been a great success. The new user centered-design makes it possible for users to access the information they need more quickly and easily. As the site is driven by the latest version of Amaxus it’s fast, reliable and allows ST Plc to easily keep their content up to date. With this system in place ST Plc have solid basis to begin updating and migrating their existing sites onto the new installation.
